We are excited to continue sharing our fashion journey with you. Our newest feature, the “Criss-Cross Vest” designed by Lidia Karabinech, is a bit more avant-garde than what we usually offer, but the concept was so inspiring we had to share. The vest features many interesting techniques to give it the architecture we wanted to achieve.
Our String Exclusive Classica Bulky, a 100% cashmere yarn, was the perfect choice for this piece. Our vision was to create a super soft garment that could be used as an outer layer or worn indoors over a simple top. The Classica Bulky works up like a dream and lends itself well to the large, elongated cables.
Cables are one of the hottest textures this season and the decision to create them on only part of the garment is genius because it removes any bulk that an all over cable sweater can sometimes produce. The cables are worked on the bias, creating movement that is both flattering and extremely comfortable. They are surrounded by smooth stockinette stitch, making them the focus of the garment, without being an overwhelming element. The cables also create the shape. Even though the overall silhouette is relaxed, there is shaping in all the “right” places.
The “Criss-Cross Vest” is in style, yet timeless. A woman of any age can wear this and feel great.
Sizes sm/med (40") and large/x-large (44").
Color shown: #200073
Also offered in regular priced Filatura Di Crosa Zara merino yarn.
The return of the relaxed sweater has continued to evolve. The “Boyfriend Sweater” (TBS) started the craze, but many want to look and feel comfortable without looking… like we are wearing our boyfriend’s sweater!
The “Elan Pullover” designed by Teresa Chorzepa for the Tahki Yarns, Life.Style FW 2015 book, has all the noteworthy characteristics of TBS; comfortable, relaxed fit, up to date. However, this pullover is more flattering in silhouette and proportion. The combination of the two most current looks this season; textural cables and meshwork join in perfect unison.
There have been surprisingly drastic changes in weather this winter, but winter is winter, and we still want soft and cozy, even on a mild day. This versatile piece works for strolling around town on the weekend and can easily work with a skirt or slacks for a day at the office.
Our customers know the importance of touch and feel. Tahki’s, Tahoe yarn - a blend of wool, baby alpaca, yak and nylon with generous yardage, creates an incredibly luscious, soft yarn with great movement. The “Elan Pullover” is a perfect balance between comfort and chic.
Inspired by true events, Eddie the Eagle is a feel-good story about Michael “Eddie” Edwards (Taron Egerton), an unlikely but courageous British ski-jumper who never stopped believing in himself – even as an entire nation was counting him out. With the help of a rebellious and charismatic coach (played by Hugh Jackman), Eddie takes on the establishment and wins the hearts of sports fans around the world by making an improbable and historic showing at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics.
Our String #IKnitForEddie Hat can be made with Filatura Di Crosa’s Zara 8, 100% extrafine merino, or use our String Classica 100% cashmere yarn.

It’s hard to fathom, but it has been a year since String Yarns reopened its doors on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. We’re proud to say we’ve hit our stride, meeting new fibery friends and expanding our family of luxury yarns and coveted patterns.
Do you believe this was us just one year ago?
Talk about your ultimate WIP! Even our fearless leader Stacy Charles, who has been with us steering the ship since the very beginning, is boggled by the rapid passage of time:
“It amazes me to think we are at our first anniversary! Bringing the String legacy forward is both daunting and exciting. We are holding true to our roots while trying to be more accessible, too. Our goal is to educate and bring more skillsets to our customers. At the same time, we are creating garments and fashions that could only be devised by our talented and expert staff. String is a true New York knitting experience!”
It took some time to reach the beautifully sunlit, luminescent space you see above, but once it was finished it quickly became a second home for our staff—a comfortable oasis in which to work, teach, and knit, flooded with gorgeous fibers and clean, natural light.
Now bright and open, String was the perfect place to host our BFFs (Best Fibery Friends, if you remember). Knitwear fashion designer Hania Cole (above middle) felt right at home in our studio-like setting, and Long Island Livestock Company's decadent array of alpaca and natural lanolin beauty products (above left & right) lent String the air of a sensuous spa. Their visits, alongwithothers, warmed the hearth of String Yarns' new home.
Of course, String Yarns is nothing without its loyal, hardworking staff. Each String Yarns member has brought something unique and indispensable to the String family, and we wouldn’t be here without him or her.
The most important member of the String Family? Well, that would be YOU! Without you, we wouldn’t be here. We can’t thank you enough…but we can certainly try! And it’s the month of February, after all—what better time to share the love?
Next Tuesday, February 9, String Yarns would like to toast you with a special in-store and online discount of 15% off all yarns! This is a one-day-only special, so make sure you stop by or check in on your computer. Use code SYBDAY16.
Here’s to you! Thank you for a sensational, fiber-filled year—we can’t wait to see what this year has in store!
